| Back | Predator Cuttle-Fish
This is THE bait for big wreck conger and
has produced a string of massive fish over the years, particular
from the upper English Channel wrecks. Its also excellent
for larger than normal shore conger from the deep water rock marks
along the west coast.
For the big conger, use them whole on a size 10/0 hook but slice
the body up a little to release more scent. For smaller baits,
open up the body cavity and remove the hard flat backbone. Remove
the skin with the back of a knife to expose a tough, thick white
flesh. Small strips can be used like squid for tipping other baits
off or cut long and thin for drift fishing. Cuttle-fish can also
be a killer bait for late autumn specimen sized bass if left to
mature for a couple of days to increase the smell.
