| Back | Pilchard & Sardine
The pilchard ( Sardinops ) is
a close relative of the herring, and like the herring is very
oily, it is thicker in the body which bluish green to silvery
white on the sides and belly and covered with thin scales. All
the pilchards that we pack are caught off the Cornish coast
and are graded packed and blast frozen the same day as capture.
The ideal size for pike baits is 6-8" and we pack these
in 3-4 to the pack according to size.
The sardine is a small pilchard and we rely on imported I.Q.F.
( individually quick frozen ) sardines from Spain and Portugal
for packing. These fish are normally the only fish that we pack
in the frozen state, and because of this the pack does not look
as good as the rest of our products, but on thawing for use
you will have a superb bait. Our sardine pack contains 3 fish
all the same size.
